Always wanted to write for a magazine... |
Call this my audition piece. I've been a writer for as long as i can remember. I am someone that is not often self motivated, so i have to run with any creative idea that pops into my head and stays there. This blog is hopefully an entertaining one, and a showcase of some sort of talent. The magazine industry is hard to break into, i had to do something to get noticed. Fingers crossed... |
My name is Richard. I am a dyslexic freelance writer (I know) from the Crawley area of the UK. I earn money writing company literature, and selling the odd piece of football writing to foreign club websites. I was born and bred in Wales, and split my time 80/20 between the UK and Australia (80 in the UK). I’ve always wanted to be a writer, more specifically film scripts. But I’ve had a problem with motivation all my life. The ideas aren’t the issue, I have books filled with script notes and film treatments lying around. But I’ve got a tiny attention span for anything that’s not on a TV screen, and can’t seem to write a final draft. My dyslexia means I make mistakes, and occasionally miss typos, not ideal in my line of work. But I’ve gotten better through my career, and sing the praises of my spell checker as often as I can.
I’m also a bit of a tumblr-bumblr (copywrite that phrase if nobody has already). I’m not fluent in the ins and outs of the site yet, but am getting to grips with it. Any faux pas I make I do apologise for, but they can’t be helped. I try to follow back if i get followed, providing i click with something on your blog.
I am so happy that I have been able to conduct a few interviews so far in the short time I’ve been on tumblr. People have been super helpful, and I hope that my writing does them justice. I’m always waiting for the next thing to go wrong, so fingers crossed I can get established with my blog at some point. I try not to re-blog lots of stuff, but am not stingy with the “likes” at all. I aim to make everything on my blog original, images are always asked for from the people I interview, and permission is regularly sought before posting anything. I try to give credit where it’s due, and name photographers when I can. I hope I’m covering all the bases, and not upsetting anyone.
Other things about me: I have a very strange habit of buying notebooks, and have too many to ever fill. I’m a pretty good cook. Love sports but don’t get the chance to play hardly any. Love to travel (but who doesn’t right). Watch way too much TV (but who doesn’t right). I enjoy a good pub quiz. Have an ancient laptop that I live in fear of crashing on me. I can draw pretty well if I have the time and concentration. Favourite food is Christmas dinner (closely followed by pizza). I am a fan of alliteration. Write very bad poetry to amuse anyone that crossed my path (many barmaids have had one or two poems from me in the past). Seinfeld is pure genius in my view, and Larry David is continuing that. Really like American culture. Fascinated by Brazilian footballers, and the status they are afforded. Also have a huge interest in foreign footballer names (did you know there is a player out there called “Argel Fucks” for example). I have a top three of perfect women (Christina Ricci, Lily Allen and Brittany Murphy (R.I.P)). The Shield, Game of Thrones and Angel are ideal viewing when I have a day off. I stay up way too late, but love early mornings.
So there’s a little bit more about me. If anyone was wondering. If you do want to know something specific, or would like to be interviewed maybe? Send me a message and I’ll get back to you.
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoy the blog.
